Co-Investigator In Study title: A Phase III randomized, parallel group, double-blind, active controlled study to investigate the efficacy and safety of oral 220 mg dabigatran etexilate (110 mg on the day of surgery followed by 220 mg once daily) compared to subcutaneous 40 mg enoxaparin once daily for 28-35 days in prevention of venous thromboembolism in patients following primary elective total hip arthroplasty. On an average, I have assisted in / conducted 50-70 elective arthroplasty surgeries per month. Apart from arthroplasty surgeries, I have assisted in all forms of trauma surgeries as a senior resident, including sports injuries, arthroscopies, complex fracture treatment of upper limb and lower limb etc.

Teaching institute. There is regular flow of patients from all over the state as well as from the neighbouring states. Annual admission rate of the institute is approximately 20,000-25,000 new admissions every year. On average 8000-12000 surgeries (including day care) are performed annually.
Duties as Resident
During my residency, I have accumulated reasonable experience and expertise in all aspects of the Orthopaedic specialty dealing with trauma (intensive care for the critically ill), spine surgery, joint replacement, arthroscopy and sports medicine, and reconstructive surgery and musculoskeletal tumor surgery.
Surgical Care:
Pre, Intra and postoperative care of patients in the designated operation theatres.
Elective operating sessions of at least 4-6 hours per day, 3 days a week.
Emergency on call duties (24 hours on call at least twice a week) with a consultant on cover, to organize and conduct the emergency surgeries.
On average, I assisted / conducted 50-60 elective and 20-25 emergency surgeries per month.
Work as part of the disaster management team including triaging.
Administrative duties:
To organize the smooth working in the operation theaters, emergency duties.
To make monthly duty / teaching rosters.
To organize all related medical conferences.
I am entrusted to impart theoretical and practical training to undergraduates MBBS trainees which is recognized as teaching experience.
I was responsible for conducting the daily ward rounds and also in general for the day to day management of patients in the wards.
- As a Registrar, I have presented in departmental meetings, seminars, case presentations, x- ray discussions and Journal clubs on topics related to recent advances in Orthopaedic, Arthroscopy etc.
